Moa Arts invited well-known and brilliant Torres Strait jewellery maker and craftswoman, Rosaline Tomsana, to the Art Centre in late February 2019. Aunty Rosaline facilitated the first ever Beading and Jewellery Making Workshop held at Moa Arts in Kubin for four full days, from Tuesday the 19th to Friday the 22nd of February. Aunty Rosaline shared the basic skills on how to create wonderful traditional jewellery, which saw a group of new and experienced local women and artists learn new skills and develop further existing skills. The Arts Law Centre of Australia’s Adopt aLawyer program pairs a single law firm with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Art Centre, for a three-year partnership. It is designed to streamline the existing Artists in the Black support of art centres by facilitating a strengthened relationship between an art centre and a single law firm. It allows the art centre to contact the pro bono lawyers at one firm directly for advice on issues, providing for timely advice. Fiona Elisala and Kara Bosun attended the Arts Ablaze festival in Koorabyn Valley this year, to find out what's been happening in the regional arts network in Queensland. Part conference and part festival, Arts Ablaze was hosted by the Scenic Rim Regional Council - just inland from the Gold Coast - where Fiona and Kara were able to combine professional development and networking opportunities with a bit of creative practice, participating in shibori and silversmithing workshops. Coral Expeditions paid Moa Arts a flying visit in October 2018 and are set to return again in 2019. We created a festive atmosphere with live demonstrations and interactive experiences for the visitors. The passengers took their time looking at all the fantastic artworks on display in the gallery and enjoyed an interactive experience, cutting their own lino ready for printing. While some of the guests were having their artworks printed, outside the ladies were teaching the visitors how to weave.
